April 2013 is Fabry Disease Awareness Month. The National Fabry Disease Foundation (NFDF) and the Fabry Support and Information Group (FSIG) have joined forces to facilitate submitting Governor's proclamation requests is as many states as possible. Here is a photo of Dan Baker, MD; his mother Mary Jo Baker, his sister Sue Hamman, and Sue's daughter Taylor Hamman holding the Oklahoma Governor's proclamation. Dan's younger brother Mark Baker was present but had to leave before they took the picture. They all have Fabry disease. Thank you to Dan and the Baker family for representing the Oklahoma Fabry community in this effort.

Governor's proclamations are being received from around the country as April approaches. This year proclamations were requested in more than half the states. Each year we are able to navigate the application process in additional states to obtain as many Governor's proclamations as possible. This program to obtain official Governor's proclamations is a work in progress but we do not have to have an official proclamation in every state to proclaim Fabry Disease Awareness Month across the entire country. April 2013 Fabry Disease Awareness Month has also been proclaimed in Australia and is endorsed by the Fabry International Network to encourage other countries to proclaim April also.

We will provide additional information about various events and ways to celebrate during the month.

Sincerely, Jerry Walter
